INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis junior guard Katy McIntosh was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 15-17, it was announced by the league Monday.
For the week, McIntosh led the Greyhounds (4-1) to a pair of single-digit regional road wins averaging 18 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 2.0 steals per game, and shooting 55 percent from the floor.
Against Lake Superior State, she went 6-for-11 (.545) from the field, and was 11-for-13 from the charity stripe to finish with a game-high 24 points, two shy of her career mark. She tacked on eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals in the Greyhounds’ 72-65 win over the Eagles.
On Saturday, the Austin, Ind. native, improved her shooting to 57.1 percent from the field en route to 12 points, while grabbing six rebounds and six assists in the Greyhounds’ 85-76 victory over reigning Division II national champion and No. 15 Ashland. She also went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to improve her season free-throw total to 81 percent (35-of-43). McIntosh currently holds Indianapolis’ school record for the most free throws by a junior (377), and most free throws made by a freshman (118).
So far this season, McIntosh has fronted the Greyhounds three times in both scoring and assists, and ranks second in the league in scoring (20.4).
The honor is McIntosh’s third of her career as she also won the award on Dec. 31, 2012 and Feb. 11, 2013.
The Greyhounds play their home season opener against Purdue-Calumet Saturday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Nicoson Hall.
