INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University junior forward Darion Hutchinson was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for contests played Nov. 18-24, it was announced by the league on Monday.

In the Knights’ two contests last week, Hutchinson registered back-to-back double-doubles to lead Bellarmine to its first two wins of the season.  She tied her career high with 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 64-61 win over Midwest Region foe Ferris State on Saturday, Nov. 23.  The following day, she set a career-high 21 points and once again pulled down 11 rebounds in a 91-79 victory over Kentucky State.

For the week, Hutchinson averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and one block in 27.5 minutes of court time.  She shot 15-for-25 (60.0 percent) from the field and 10-for-11 (90.9 percent) from the free-throw line which earned her the Most Valuable Player honor of the Bellarmine Classic.

The Scottsburg, Ind., native has fronted the Knights (2-2) in two contests this year and leads the team in points (14.5), and rebounds (8.5) in 111 minutes of hardwood action in four games thus far.

The honor is Hutchinson’s first of career and the first for a Bellarmine player since Betsy Goodin earned the award on Nov. 26, 2012.

Bellarmine will take a two-week break from games and will return to the hardwood at Union University (Tenn.) on Saturday, Dec. 7.
