INDIANAPOLIS – Drury University senior guard Bethanie Funderburk was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 29-30, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Funderburk helped No. 16 Drury (6-0) to remain unbeaten on the season as it hosted the Doubletree Hotel/Houlihan’s Thanksgiving Classic at the O’Reilly Family Event Center. She registered a season high 21 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Lady Panthers’ 71-60 win against Missouri Western on Nov. 29. The 5-10 shooting guard was 5-of-12 (.417) from the field, while connecting on 9-of-11 free throws (.818) in the victory. In Drury’s 62-59 win over Union (TN) on Nov. 30, Funderburk recorded 18 points, notching her third double-figure output this season to go along with a season-high nine rebounds. She also drained 5-of-7 (.714) from beyond the arc against.
After this past weekend, Funderburk moved up in Drury’s record book to No. 7 on the all-time scoring (1,381 points), No. 2 for career 3-pointers (219), and No. 8 for rebounds (402).
The Nixa, Mo., native averaged 19.5 points, and 7.5 rebounds per game. She shot 50 percent from the field after playing 30.0 minutes per game. This season, Funderburk is averaging 13.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists each time out for the season.
The honor is Funderburk’s third of her career as she also won the award on Dec. 5, 2011 and Feb. 27, 2012, which was also the last time a Lady Panther was honored by the conference.
