INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University sophomore forward Mariyah Brawner-Henley has been named the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the 2013-14 season, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Brawner-Henley posted impressive numbers on the week, averaging 22.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks per game. She shot 19-for-31 (.613) from the field and went 7-for-9 (.778) from the free-throw line. The Skokie, Ill., native also collected two steals between the two wins.
Brawner-Henley started the week recording her first double-double on the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds, eight of which were on the defensive end in 28 minutes versus Saginaw Valley State (82-76). Against Northwood (76-73), she led Lewis’ post players with 21 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks en route to her second double-double of the season.
The honor is Brawner-Henley’s first of her career and she is the first Flyer to be recognized with a GLVC weekly award since teammate Jess Reinhart was recognized by the league on Feb. 4, 2013.
