INDIANAPOLIS – Drury University senior backstroke specialist Jordi Montseny and sophomore freestyler Sarah Pullen were respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday following a vote from the conference's head coaches.

At the three-day Arkansas-Little Rock Christmas Invitational last week, Montseny recorded NCAA standards in each of the four races he competed.  He posted an NCAA A Cut in the 200 Back with a first-place time of 1:46.07, while also notching B Cuts in the 100 Back (48.64), 50 Free (20.70) and 200 Free (1:38.28).  Last season the Barcelona, Spain, native finished fifth in the 100 Back and the 200 Back at the NCAA Division II National Championship Meet.
This is the first career weekly award for Montseny and the first for a member of the DU men's squad since Stanislav Kuzmin was recognized nearly a month ago on Nov. 12.

Pullen, a native of Brisbane, Australia, recorded three wins, a pair of NCAA A Cuts, and three B Cuts at the Arkansas-Little Rock Christmas Invitational.  Her A Cuts came in the 500 Free (4:52.69) and the 800 Free Relay (7:23.24), which also saw her garner a first-place result in the 500 Free.  She claimed titles in the 200 Free in a B Cut time of 1:49.18 and the 1650 Free in 16:57.16, which included a B Cut split time as well (10:13.70).  At the NCAA Championships last year, Pullen finished third in the 500 Free, seventh in the 1000 Free, and 11th in both the 200 Free and 1650 Free.

This is the first weekly award for Pullen and the first for a Drury women's swimmer since Gretchen Stein was honored on Oct. 29, 2013.

The DU men and women will be idle over the next month before hosting Missouri State University on Jan. 23 at Breech Pool.
