INDIANAPOLIS – University of Illinois Springfield Elizabeth Kelly has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

In the Prairie Stars two contests last week, Kelly registered back-to-back double-doubles against Robert Morris University-Springfield and Taylor University, averaging 13 points and 13 rebounds per game.  She began the week with 14 points and 16 rebounds, while adding three assists in UIS’s 89-60 win over Robert Morris on Tuesday, Nov. 10.  Four days later, she shot 5-for-9 from the field for 12 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and grabbed two steals in the Prairie Stars 75-72 overtime victory against Taylor.

For the week, she converted 12-for-17 (70.6 percent) from the field, 2-for-4 (.500) from the free-throw line, corralled 26 rebounds, dished three assists, and snatched two steals at the forward position.

The Carlinville, Ill., native has fronted the Prairie Stars (3-5, 0-1 GLVC) in seven contests in rebounds and has recorded double-doubles in four consecutive games this year.  She leads the team in rebounds (10.6), and ranks second in field goal percentage (.590) and blocks (0.3).

The honor is Kelly’s first of her career and the first for an Illinois Springfield player since the program joined the league in 2008.

The Prairie Stars are back in action Saturday, Dec. 21 when they travel to Oakland City, Ind. to face Oakland City University.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
