INDIANAPOLIS – University of Southern Indiana junior center/forward Anna Hackert has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

In the Screaming Eagles two road wins last week, Hackert registered back-to-back double-doubles against Rockhurst and William Jewell, averaging 24.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.  She began the week with 13 points and 11 boards, while adding three steals and an assist in USI’s 70-44 win over Rockhurst on Thursday, Jan. 3.  Two days later, she shot 11-for-17 from the field for a career-high 36 points, grabbed a season-best 14 rebounds, and snatched three steals in the Screaming Eagles three-point (84-81) victory against William Jewell.

For the week, she converted 15-for-26 (57.7 percent) from the field, 19-for-23 (.826) from the free-throw line, corralled 26 rebounds, swiped six steals, collected two assists, and two blocks at the post position.

The Evansville, Ind., native recorded the Eagles’ first 30-point, 10-rebound effort since Africa Sherrod in 2003 and USI’s first 30-point outing since Ellen Young in 2011.  Hackert has fronted the Screaming Eagles (8-2, 2-0 GLVC) in seven contests in points and rebounds, and has recorded double-doubles in three games, in addition to scoring double digits in all 10 contests.  She leads the team in five categories including points (20.3), free-throws (78.7), field goals (61.5), rebounds (8.5), and blocks (0.9).

The honor is Hackert’s third of her career as she also won the award on Jan. 7, 2013 and Jan. 21, 2013.

Southern Indiana is back in action Thursday, Jan. 9 when it hosts Missouri S &T to begin a four-game homestand.  Game time is set for 5:15 p.m.
