Maryville University freshman Olivia Shannon has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the conference office today.
Shannon, a native of Fortville, Ind., earns the first-ever weekly honor in Maryville history as the Saints are competing in their inaugural year.
At this past Saturday’s Washington University Invitational, Shannon participated in seven events to help Maryville to a fifth-place finish, which included the program’s first victory over an opponent – Principia College. She garnered top-six results in the 200-yard medley, 200 freestyle, 400 free, and 800 free relays events, while setting a new school record in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:15.68. She also placed eighth in the 200 breaststroke (2:47.61) and 11th in the 100 breast (1:17.24).
Maryville will next join both Lewis squads at Olivet Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Ill., this Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
