University of Southern Indiana senior guard Stephanie Carpenter was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday.

For the week, Carpenter led the Screaming Eagles (11-3, 5-1 GLVC) to a pair of double-digit division wins averaging 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.  She shot 38.2 percent from the floor and 88.9 percent from the free-throw line after playing 36.0 minutes per contest.

Against Saint Joseph’s, she went 6-for-18 (.333) from the field, and was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to finish with a game-high 20 points, four shy of her career mark.  Carpenter tacked on five rebounds, an assist, and a steal in the Screaming Eagles’ 69-56 win over the Pumas.

On Saturday, the Salem, Ill., native improved her shooting to 43.8 percent from the field en route to a game-high 21 points, while grabbing two rebounds and two steals in the Eagles’ 73-44 victory over No. 14 Indianapolis.   She also went 3-for-7 from beyond the arc and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line to improve her season free-throw total to 77.6 percent (38-of-49).

So far this season, Carpenter has fronted the Screaming Eagles five times in scoring and ranks second on the team and tenth in the league in scoring (14.7).  She leads the league with 2.9 three-pointers per game.

The honor is Carpenter’s first of her career and is the second Screaming Eagle to be recognized by the league this season since teammate Anna Hackert earned the honor on Jan. 7.

USI travels to Louisville, Ky., today to take on Bellarmine and USI Hall of Fame coach Chancellor Dugan at Knights Hall.  Tip-off is set for 4:45 p.m.
