University of Indianapolis junior guard Katy McIntosh has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league Monday.
McIntosh led No. 18 Indianapolis (17-3, 8-1 GLVC) to three divisional wins last week, averaging 16.3 points, 6.0 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. The senior guard connected on 63 percent (17-of-27) from the field, and nailed 12-of-14 from the free-throw line.
Against Saint Joseph’s, McIntosh registered her first double-double of the season with 14 points and a career-high 11 assists. She went 4-for-11 (.364) from the field, and was 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. She added five rebounds and three steals in the Greyhounds’ 88-63 win over the Pumas.
On Thursday, the Austin, Ind. native, improved her shooting to 77.8 percent from the field en route to 18 points, while grabbing six rebounds, and five assists in the Greyhounds’ 73-51 victory over Illinois Springfield. She also went 4-of-5 from the free-throw line to improve her season free-throw total to 78.2 percent (136-of-174).
McIntosh wrapped up the week with a 17-point performance in a 102-72 decision at McKendree. She was 6-of-7 from the floor, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. McIntosh also had three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the victory. During the game, she passed Melissa Graham on UIndy's all-time scoring list, moving to 7th place with 1,479 points.
So far this season, McIntosh has fronted the East Division’s leading squad 16 times in assists and 15 times in points. She leads the league in assists (5.2) and ranks third in scoring (17.4).
The honor is McIntosh’s fourth of her career and second of the season as she also won the award on Dec. 31, 2012, Feb. 11, 2013, and Nov. 18, 2013.
