Drury University seniors Nick McCarthy and Agnieszka Ostrowska were respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday following a vote from the conference's head coaches.

Both Panthers were honored for their efforts in last Thursday's home dual meet win against Division I foe Missouri State, as well as their competitive battle against Southeastern Conference member Missouri on Saturday.

The men scored a 126-117 victory over the rival Bears, while the women picked a 146-97 win at the annual "Duel in the Pool" match at Drury's Breech Pool.  On Saturday, Mizzou defeated the Drury men by a 149-92 final while the Tigers edged out the Panther women by a 121-118 tally.

McCarthy was a member of the winning 200-freestyle relay team, which touched the wall in a Breech Pool-record time of 1:21.37 that also secured the victory against Missouri State.  Earlier in the meet, McCarthy scored a win in the 50 free with a pool record in 20.18.  In the loss to Missouri, the Little Rock, Ark., native was the lone Drury swimmer to secure an individual victory, taking the 50 free in 20.69.  He also anchored the winning 400 medley (3:17.74) and led off winning 200 free relay (1:22.36) as well.

This is the first career weekly honor for McCarthy and the first for a Drury men's swimmer since Jordi Montseny was recognized on Dec. 10, 2013.  It is the fourth overall honor for a Panther this season.

Ostrowska won four events over the two meets this past week.  Against Missouri State, she claimed the 100 breaststroke in a pool-record time of 1:02.57, while also nabbing the 200 individual medley in 2:04.46.  In the close loss to Missouri, she set a new pool record in the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.56 and earned first in the 400 IM in 4:25.15.

A native of Rawicz, Poland, Ostrowska earns her first career weekly award and is the first Drury women's swimmer to earn the award since Sarah Pullen on Dec. 10, 2013, which was also the last time the Panthers swept both GLVC Athlete of the Week accolades.
