Missouri S&T senior sprinter Adriel Hawkins and Lewis University sophomore jumper Isaac Jean-Paul have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, it was announced on Wednesday.
Hawkins captured two event titles at last weekend's Central Missouri Invitational in impressive fashion. He took home the 200-meter dash in a school record and NCAA provisional time of 21.75 seconds. The time ranks him first among GLVC sprinters and second among all NCAA Division II competitors. He also recorded a win in the 60-meter dash in 6.86 seconds, which also eclipsed the school record and NCAA provisional standard. Hawkins' effort is tops in the conference and rates 18th nationally.
The Jefferson City, Mo., native earns his second weekly honor of his indoor career as he was also recognized by the league as Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 20, 2013.
