Lewis University freshman distance runner Stephanie Nielsen and McKendree University senior jumper LaTia Jefferson have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, it was announced on Wednesday.

At last Saturday’s Grand Valley State 5-Way, Nielsen ran a new personal best in the 800 meters of 2:15.90 seconds, which placed her fourth in the meet and earned her an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.  Her time in the event is the fastest in the GLVC this season and 25th nationally.

The Racine, Wis., native earns her first career weekly honor and is the first Flyer to be honored as GLVC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week since Kamille Ferguson on Feb. 13, 2013.
