INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Saint Joseph’s College’s Sara Somogyi (Chicago, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Somogyi, a sophomore pitcher for the Pumas, collected three complete-game wins last week.
She fired a two-hit shutout against UIndy on April 19. Somogyi struck out 12 Greyhounds and did not surrender a walk in the Pumas’ 1-0 win.
Somogyi returned on April 21 to post a 1-0 win over Northern Kentucky. She again only allowed two hits and struck out 14 hitters.
She completed the weekend by delivering another shutout in Saint Joseph’s 5-0 win over Bellarmine on April 22. Somogyi allowed just four hits and struck out 11 Knights in the victory.
On the year, Somogyi is 18-9 with a 1.82 earned run average. She has recorded 12 shutouts this season and has struck out 290 hitters in 177 innings pitched to lead the Pumas (26-18) to a 13-7 GLVC mark.
Other top performances in the GLVC last week included Quincy’s Megan Corey and Southern Indiana’s Amy Harrison.
