Missouri S&T senior sprinter Adriel Hawkins and University of Indianapolis sophomore jumper Josh Bass have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, it was announced on Wednesday.
Bass earned the first NCAA automatic mark for the Greyhounds this indoor season with a jump of 7.76 meters in the long jump. The Springfield, Ohio native’s leap not just met automatic qualifying standards, but was also a personal best and a school record. The jump is the best among GLVC competitors this season and second among NCAA qualifiers.
This is the second career weekly honor for Bass as he was first honored as GLVC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 30, 2013. He is the first Greyhound to be recognized by the league office since Ryan Smith on Feb. 13, 2013.
