University of Indianapolis junior Camille Edwards and Saint Joseph's College junior Samantha Nirva have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, it was announced on Wednesday.
Edwards won the 60-meter hurdles at the UIndy Relays this past weekend with an NCAA Provisional mark of 8.68 seconds, which currently ranks 13th nationally. Her effort marked a new university record and is the best among GLVC competitors to date.
This is the second career weekly honor for the Indianapolis, Ind., native as she was recognized as GLVC Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 22, 2012, which was also the last time a UIndy trackster earned the award.
Nirva earns her second honor of the season, but first as a Field Athlete. She won the Pentathlon on Friday at the Wide Track Classic at Hillsdale College with a provisional mark of 3,253 points. She returned to action on Saturday and finished third in the 60-meter hurdles, improving her NCAA mark with a time of 8.80 seconds.
The Crystal Lake, Ill., native was first honored by the league on Jan. 15, 2014.
