INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Indianapolis’ Megan Russell (Indianapolis, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week.
Russell helped lead the Greyhounds to five wins last week by hitting .462 and driving in ten runs. She was 12-for-26 at the plate with four runs, two triples, a double and home run.
Included in her efforts last week was a 5-for-6 performance in UIndy’s doubleheader sweep of Northern Kentucky on April 22. She had seven RBIs, two triples and her second grand slam of the season against the Norse.
In addition to her hitting exploits, Russell was also 3-1 in the circle last week including a five-hit shutout win against Bellarmine on April 21. She made four appearances last week with 43 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched.
Russell is hitting .386 this season and has tied the school’s season-season mark for home runs (7) and RBIs (37). She is 11-6 in the circle with a 2.85 earned run average and helped UIndy (25-16) to a 12-8 GLVC record.
Other top performances in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Stephanie Lush, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Haleigh Ashworth, Missouri-St. Louis’ Alex Pepin, Quincy’s Lindsay Phillips, Rockhurst’s Kelli Vanderwell and Southern Indiana’s Kristin Eickholt.
