Quincy's sophomore pitcher/infielder Rachel Scrum and Missouri St. Louis' sophomore pitcher Hannah Perryman have been selected the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league on Monday.
Scrum batted .565 (13-of-23) with a .696 slugging percentage last week, helping Quincy win four of its six games in the 8-State Classic in Bentonville, Ark. On the week, she recorded 34 outs, 13 hits, six RBIs, five runs, two assists, and one stolen base over a span of six games. In Friday's twin bill against Central Missouri and Missouri Southern, Scrum combined for five hits and four RBIs on opening day. On Saturday, she split her time at first base against Upper Iowa and in the circle she faced Fort Hays where she pitched 3.2 innings. Scrum closed out the week earning her first win in the circle against Northwestern Missouri State, where the Hawks prevailed 9-7, in which Scrum earned two hits and one RBI.
The Maryville, Ill., native lead the Lady Hawks in batting average (.688), total bases (14), hits (11), and doubles (3).
The honor is Scrum's first of her career, and the first for a Quincy player since Whitney Kroeger won the award on April 26, 2012.
