INDIANAPOLIS – Illinois Springfield senior guard Megan Bergerud was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league on Monday.
Bergerud led the Prairie Stars with 31 points in the season finale verus McKendree last week. Against the Bearcats, she went 11-of-19 (.579) from the field, 5-of-8 (.625) from beyond the arc, and was perfect from the free-throw line (4-of-4) as Illinois Springfield ended its season (7-19, 3-15 GLVC).
The Virginia, Ill., native close the season landing in Illinois Springfield’s record book after becoming the first UIS women's basketball player to score 30-plus points in a game.
Bergerud, who averaged 16.3 points per game for the Prairie Stars, earns her first career weekly honor from the conference, and just the second for an Illinois Springfield player since the program joined the GLVC in 2008. Teammate Elizabeth Kelly won the award on Dec. 16.
