INDIANAPOLIS – Illinois Springfield's senior catcher Samantha Riss and Truman State's sophomore pitcher Kindra Henze have been selected the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league on Tuesday.
Riss batted .600 (3-of-5) with a 1.200 slugging percentage last week, helping Illinois Springfield split its twin bill against Quincy at Land of Lincoln Softball Complex. In game one, Riss registered seven put outs behind the plate, and hit two doubles in leading the Prairie Stars to a 3-1 decision over the Lady Hawks. In game two, she tallied three RBIs, drew two walks, and earned two runs for a team-best .750 on-base percentage. The Streator, Ill., native leads the Prairie Stars in slugging percentage (.605), batting average (.395), and walks (9), while owning a .382 average on the season. Riss is currently on a nine-game hitting streak.
