INDIANAPOLIS – Illinois Springfield's senior catcher Samantha Riss and Truman State's sophomore pitcher Kindra Henze have been selected the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league on Tuesday.
Henze, a native of Palmyra, Mo., pitched a complete-game one-hitter in Truman's league opener against McKendree (8-0) in five innings. She faced just one batter over the minimum, surrendering one hit while striking out seven Bearcats. On the season, Henze is now 5-1 in seven starts, with a 0.66 ERA in 42.2 innings pitched. She has tossed six complete games, four shutouts, and has 41 strikeouts to just six walks.
Henze earns her second weekly honor of the season (Feb. 24).
Truman State returns to action Wednesday afternoon, taking its eight-game winning streak to Jefferson City for a 2 p.m. double-dip with former MIAA-rival Lincoln.
