INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Deserea Brown (Floosmoor, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week. The sophomore broke the Vanderbilt Invitational Meet record in the 400 meter hurdles on April 21.

 

Brown posted a time of 58.78 in the 400 meter hurdles and is currently ranked first in the GLVC and second in NCAA Division II in the event.

 

She also ran a 14.79 in the 100 meter hurdles which places her first in the league and tenth in the country.

 

Brown was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team and 4x100 meter relay team at the Vanderbilt Invitational. The 4x400 meter relay team posted a NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time of 3:37.11 and the 4x100 meter relay team finished in a provisional qualifying time of 46.72.

 

The times posted by Brown in the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles and the times established by both relay teams were all SIUE school records.

 

SIUE’s women’s track and field team placed fifth out of 24 teams at the event over the weekend and finished with 58 points.

 

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Southern Indiana’s Allison Shafer, Saint Joseph’s Natasha Kinsey, UIndy’s Bathsheba Adams and Northern Kentucky’s Julianne Hoekzema.
