INDIANAPOLIS – Drury University junior first baseman Luke Tewes and junior pitcher Trevor Richards have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday.

Tewes helped the Panthers improve to 5-3 with a four-game series sweep in non-conference action versus league member Indianapolis last week.  The Lincoln, Neb., native hits .583 at the plate, going 7-for-12 with two doubles and a triple, two runs scored, and four runs batted in.  He posted a .917 slugging percentage and a .571 on base percentage for the week, while recording 20 putouts at first base as well.  Drury downed the Greyhounds 6-1 and 7-3 in the opening day of the series on Friday and came back on Sunday to take the series with victories of 3-0 and 7-1.

This is the first-ever weekly honor for Tewes and the first for a Panther player since Payton Reed earned GLVC Player of the Week on May 7, 2013.

Richards started the Drury opener on Sunday and posted seven strikeouts with no walks in six shutout innings in his first action of the season.  The Aviston, Ill., native, who gave up just three hits in the win, earns his first career weekly award.  He is the first Panther pitcher to be honored by the league since Laurent Zenoni on April 9, 2012.

This is the also the first time in program history that Drury has swept both conference awards in the same week.

Drury will host Arkansas-Monticello Tuesday at 3 p.m. in doubleheader action before facing GLVC foe Southern Indiana on March 15-16.
