Bellarmine sophomore Caitlin Hanley was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday.
Hanley registered a 2-0 mark with a singles and doubles victory with partner Sydney Thompson as Bellarmine claimed a 6-3 team win over visiting Southern Indiana last week. She and Thompson earned the Knights’ only win during doubles competition, defeating USI’s Shannon Joyce and Brenna Wu 8-3 in the No. 2 position. Hanley recorded a straight-set feat over Wu by score 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 flight. Her win equaled (2-2) the playing field which sparked a Knights comeback that resulted in Bellarmine earning the win in its league opener.
The Prospect, Ky., native earns her first career honor and first for Bellarmine since Rebecca Porter won the award on April 20, 2010.
Bellarmine (6-3, 1-0 GLVC) will play Saturday, March 28 at Illinois Springfield. Frist serve is at 2 p.m.
