INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis sophomore Luke Hubert was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday.

Hubert totaled two wins in both singles and doubles play against division foe McKendree last week.  Indianapolis (8-2, 1-0 GLVC), ranked third in the Midwest Region, opened conference play with an 8-1 win over the Bearcats (12-3, 0-1) to improve to a perfect 7-0 at home.

In a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of McKendee’s Martin Martins in the No. 5 flight, Hubert won his 10th consecutive singles match, of which nine of the 10 have been straight-set, wins this season.

In doubles play, Hubert partnered with freshman Fernando Taricano to win their seventh doubles draw together in a close 9-7 match over Bearcats Blake Kebblewhite and Maximilian Ilic in the No. 3 spot.  The duo's only loss this spring was against 23rd-ranked West Alabama (March 14).

The New Berlin, Wis., native has an 18-1 combined record this spring for doubles and singles.

The honor is Hubert’s first of his career and first for Indianapolis since Mike Smith won the award on April 13, 2009.

No. 39 Indianapolis host No. 22 Southern Indiana Friday in the UIndy Tennis Center.  First serve is set for 4 p.m.
