INDIANAPOLIS – University of Missouri-St. Louis senior outfielder Philip Landwehr and University of Wisconsin-Parkside freshman pitcher Mario Samuel have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Entering the week 4-4 in conference play and facing a Rockhurst squad that was 6-3 in league action, Landwehr paced the Tritons to three wins in the four-game divisional slate, posting at least one hit in each contest. The Gerald, Mo., native led UMSL with six hits in 10 plate appearances (.600) over the weekend, which included four doubles and a triple. He drew four walks to improve his on-base percentage to .714 and tallied a slugging percentage of 1.100.
The award is the first of Landwehr’s career and he is the first Triton to be named GLVC Player of the Week since Charlie Mohr on May 7, 2012, although UMSL has had four pitchers recognized by the conference in that span, most recently Kyle Renaud on April 22, 2013.
