INDIANAPOLIS – University of Missouri-St. Louis senior outfielder Philip Landwehr and University of Wisconsin-Parkside freshman pitcher Mario Samuel have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday.

Samuel tossed a one-hitter against Indianapolis on Monday afternoon, helping the Rangers blank the host Greyhounds 2-0 in game one of a GLVC twinbill. The Bolingbrook, Ill., native struck out three in the complete game shutout, throwing 111 pitches over the course of the seven-inning contest.  On the season, the freshman owns a 3-2 record on the mound, having logged three complete games while striking out a team-high 16 batters.

This is Samuel’s first weekly honor and the first for a Parkside pitcher since Cody Downing was honored on March 26, 2012.
