Drury junior Jorge Nadal was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday.

The upperclassman from Teia, Barcelona Spain, went 6-0 in singles and doubles play to help guide No. 12 Drury (13-2, 2-0 GLVC) to a 2-1 record last week in wins over league members No. 38 Rockhurst (9-0) and Missouri-St. Louis (6-3), and a loss to Division III No. 2 Washington-St. Louis (6-3).

Playing in the No. 6 singles slot, Nadal turned away Rockhurst’s Decho Valev in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 en route to the Panthers seventh sweep of the season.  He followed that performance topping UMSL’s Dario Vidaurre by a 6-1, 6-2 score.

Nadal partnered with senior Andy Blair at No. 1 doubles, where the duo went 3-0, earning victories over Rockhurst’s Truit Gray and Pawel Grzegrzolka (8-5), Washington-St. Louis’ Ross Putterman and Jeremy Bush (8-5), and Missouri-St. Louis’ Nils Mueggenburg and Harry Heyburn (8-6).

Nadal has won two consecutive matches and is now 10-1 overall in singles on the year.  He enters this weekend at 5-0 in doubles this spring playing primarily at the No. 1 position.

The honor is Nadal’s first of his career and is the second honor for Drury this season as teammate Max Hepp won the award on March 11.
