Maryville University sophomore Elizabeth Kiblinger and University of Indianapolis senior Tatiana Zhuravleva have been named the 2014 season's first Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, it was announced on Thursday.
Kiblinger placed second at the Washington University Invitational with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 36 minutes, 22 seconds in the 10,000 meters. The effort currently ranks her sixth among NCAA Division II distance runners and first in the conference. The Cape Girardeau, Mo., native also raced in the 1,500 meters, finishing in 4:49.79 to rank second on the conference's performance list.
This is the first-ever weekly award for a Maryville track and field athlete for the outdoor season.
Zhuravleva was among the top collegiate athletes in the women's shot put (15.01m) and discus (53.89m) at last weekend's Oliver Nikoloff Invitational. Both of her shot put and discus efforts were NCAA automatic qualifying marks and currently sit atop the GLVC performance list in the respective events.
This is the Kaze, Russia, native's first career award for the outdoor season and the first for a Greyhound field athlete since Sydney Weinert was recognized by the league on May 1, 2013.
