INDIANAPOLIS – Maryville University junior Jack McKinney has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Player of the Month for March, following a vote from the league's head coaches.
McKinney carded two medalist honors in the Saints' first three events of the spring, while carding a stroke average of 75.0.
He opened the spring season at the Illinois Springfield Spring Invitational at Missouri Bluffs Golf Club, March 15-16. The Big Bend, Wis., native carded a 1-under-par 70 to tie for first individually in the weather-shortened event, while helping Maryville to a sixth-place tie at 304 in the 15-team field. At Drury's Panther Invitational, which took place at the Millwood Country Club in Springfield, Mo., on March 24-25, McKinney toted rounds of 76 and 73 for a winning 36-hole score of 149. He helped the Saints to a runner-up finish with a score of 610. In his last event of the month at the region-heavy UW-Parkside Spring Invitational, held March 30-31 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind., McKinney turned in scores of 79 and 77 for a top-50 finish at 156.
This is the first monthly award ever garnered by a Maryville men's golfer.
