Southern Indiana junior catcher/infield MacKenzi Dorsam and Missouri-St. Louis sophomore pitcher Hannah Perryman have been selected the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league on Tuesday.
In six games, Dorsam hit .478 and recorded 11 hits, added 10 RBIs, and scored five runs of which all of those hits were for extra base to lead the Screaming Eagles to a 5-1 league mark last week. After a combined 2-for-7 effort in USI’s shutout-sweep over Bellarmine, Dorsam returned to the field Saturday against Lewis, ending the day at 5-for-7. In USI’s 9-3 win over the Flyers, Dorsam was a perfect 4-for-4, totaling four RBIs, two doubles, and a triple. To end the week, during game one against UW-Parkside, Dorsam’s double to center field, in the first half of the fifth inning, cleared the bases and advanced USI to a 10-1 lead, good enough to end the game after the next half inning. In the nightcap, the Screaming Eagles rallied from a 4-0 deficit to defeat the Rangers, 6-4, which Dorsam homered and brought in USI’s winning runs (2) off a single to center. The Dubois, Ind., native leads the team in batting average (.398), RBIs (28), and homeruns (4).
This is Dorsam’s first career weekly award and the first for a USI player since teammate Brooke Harmening was honored on April 1, 2013.
