NDIANAPOLIS – Quincy junior Ian Hinkamper was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday.
Hinkamper went 2-0 in singles play in leading Quincy to 1-1 last week. The Hawks No. 1 singles player defeated William Jewell's Bryan Thomas, 6-3, 6-3, on Friday (April 4). The Quincy, Ill., native followed that performance with a thrilling win over No. 29-ranked Andy Blair of Drury on Saturday (April 5) in Springfield, Mo. Hinkamper won the first set, 6-1, before falling in the second, 2-6. He rallied in the tiebreak for an 11-9 victory to run his winning streak in singles play to six.
Hinkamper and his No. 1 doubles partner senior Lane Luhring were 1-1 last week. They defeated William Jewell's Michael Rawat and Bryan Thomas 8-3, and lost a close match to Drury's Blair and Jorge Nadal, 8-6.
The 2013 All-GLVC first team player is 18-7 overall this season and is 4-0 in league play. He is the only unbeaten No. 1 singles player in the GLVC West. Hinkamper and Luhring are 18-4 in doubles play.
The honor is Hinkamper's second career award, since he was recognized on March 12, 2013.
