The University of Indianapolis has swept the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week accolades as Jermel Kindred and Josh Bass earned the respective awards Friday following a vote by the league coaches.
Kindred won the invitational section of the 400-meter hurdles at the Bellarmine Invitational this past weekend with a NCAA provisional mark of 52.64 seconds. The time ranks among the top 10 nationally and is first in the conference. The South Bend, Ind., native also ran the anchor leg on the team’s 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay squads.
Bass joined his teammate on the podium by winning the invitational section of the long jump in Louisville, Ky., with a NCAA provisional mark of 7.26 meters – an effort that tops the league charts and its 12th nationally. The Springfield, Ohio native also finished third in the 100-meter dash in 10.70.
Both Greyhounds earn their first career outdoor weekly honor and the sweep marks the first occasion for UIndy since Jerel Flournoy and Matt Royer were respectively recognized as GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week on April 17, 2012.
