INDIANAPOLIS – Drury University junior third baseman Carson Forge and University of Indianapolis sophomore pitcher Morgan Foley have been selected the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league on Monday.
Foley became a 20-game winner last weekend, going 3-0 in the circle while also earning a save. The Louisville, Ky., native compiled 30 strikeouts and a 0.45 ERA in 20 innings pitched. She started the week with a complete-game win at Maryville, striking out 11 and allowing just three hits. Three of the four runs allowed were unearned as a fielding error in both the fourth and fifth innings snapped Foley’s streak of 104 consecutive outs without allowing a run. Her only earned tally of the weekend came on a solo home run in the sixth inning. Foley contributed in game two pitching the final 2 2/3 innings to earn her first save of the season. She came on with one on and one out in a one-run game and coaxed an inning-ending double play that stranded the potential tying run at second base. The right-hander went on to retire the next six batters to seal the win for the Greyhounds. Against No. 6 Missouri-St. Louis, the Greyhounds defeated the Tritons by identical scores (2-0), and snapped UMSL’s 10-game win streak, while increasing their win total to a GLVC-best 16. Foley recorded wins on both ends of a doubleheader Sunday. In game one, she tossed a three-hit shutout, and fanned 11 batters while walking only two. In the night cap, Foley earned a relief win pitching three innings without incident to hand the Tritons their third league loss on the year. So far this season, Foley leads the league in wins (21) and strikeouts (244) while also ranking in the top five in ERA (0.89), innings pitched (149.1), and batting average against (.143).
This is Foley’s third career weekly award and the first this season, as she was recognized by the league on March 11, 2013 and March 25, 2013.
