Drury University senior outfielder Nick Thimesch and junior pitcher Trevor Richards have secured the Panthers’ second consecutive sweep of Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball weekly honors, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Last week junior first baseman Luke Tewes and senior pitcher Will Landsheft were respectively honored by the league.
Thimsech was tabbed GLVC Player of the Week after hitting .522 for the week with 12 hits, nine RBIs, seven runs scored, six stolen bases, with two doubles, a walk and was also hit by a pitch twice. In extending his hitting streak to 19 games, the Marshalltown, Iowa, native had a .652 slugging percentage and a .607 on-base percentage. Among the highlights of this past week, Thimsech went 3-for-7 in two wins at Missouri S&T prior to combining for 9-of-16 at the plate in a four-game sweep at Rockhurst, which included a 3-for-4, four-RBI effort in Friday’s nightcap. This is Thimsech’s first career weekly honor.
Richards matched the Drury single-game record for strikeouts with 11 in his 5-2 victory at Rockhurst last Friday. The Aviston, Ill., native had no walks and allowed six hits in the nine-inning contest for a spotless earned run average. This is the second GLVC Pitcher of the Week honor for Richards as he earned his first-ever award on March 11, 2014.
