INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana’s Paul Jellema (Dyer, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week. The sophomore finished third in the 5,000 meters at the Hillsdale “Gina” Relays on April 27.

Jellema was the first collegiate finisher at the event and posted a time of 14:06.96 which ranks him first in the GLVC this season and fifth in the NCAA Division II rankings.

The mark also places Jellema third on Southern Indiana’s all-time performance list in the 5,000 meters. Former Eagle standouts Ben Kapsoiya (13:56.1) and Elly Rono (13:56.3) sit just ahead of him in the school record books.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Elliot Mattingly, SIU Edwardsville’s Jonathan Bannister and UIndy’s Cory Fornal.
