INDIANAPOLIS – Quincy University senior shortstop Kenny May and University of Missouri-St. Louis junior pitcher Zach Sedlacek have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Sedlacek tossed his third complete game victory of the season in a 3-1 win at Drury last Saturday, which helped snap the Panthers’ nine-game winning streak. After Drury combined for 27 hits in Friday night's doubleheader sweep of the Tritons, Sedlacek quieted the Panther bats, holding them to just two hits and one earned run. The Glen Carbon, Ill., native retired the first nine batters he faced and the final 12 that stepped into the box as well. His seven-inning, five-strikeout effort held the Panthers to a team batting average of just .087.
This is the first weekly honor of Sedlacek’s career and the first for an UMSL hurler since Alan Frank was recognized on April 8, 2014.
