INDIANAPOLIS – Truman State University junior midfielder Alexis Heffernan and Drury University freshman goalkeeper Tina Haberberger have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week in women’s soccer, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Heffernan recorded a goal and an assist in both conference wins last week, helping Truman improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in GLVC play. In Friday’s 3-0 victory over Illinois Springfield, she scored the team’s first goal in the 25th minute and then provided an assist on teammate Tori Owens’ goal in the 37th minute to give the Bulldogs an insurance tally before the half. In her 81 minutes played, Heffernan took four shots, two of which were on goal. In Sunday’s 2-1 overtime decision against Southern Indiana, she again put the Bulldogs on the board first, scoring in 12th minute of play. After USI tied the game in the 53rd minute, she played a through ball to Megan Frkovic in the 91st minute for the game-winning goal. On the day, the Ankeny, Iowa, native took six shots, including four on goal in playing all 91 minutes of action. This is the first GLVC weekly award for the Truman women’s soccer program.
