INDIANAPOLIS – University of Southern Indiana junior Johnnie Guy and senior Julia Kohnen have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runners of the Week for men’s and women’s cross country, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
On the women’s side, Kohnen has now captured GLVC Runner of the Week honors in each of her two career races. The former USI soccer standout with a year of eligibility left for cross country stamped her name in the school’s records book by breaking the team’s five-kilometer record Saturday at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Cross Country Invitational. She surpassed Heather Cooksey's nine-year old record (17:09.00) as she placed seventh in the 96-competitor field with a 5K time of 17:03.70 seconds. The Florissant, Missouri, native helped USI finished fifth with 148 points in a 10-team field, that included a majority of Division I squads, including event winner Ohio State.
USI returns to action October 4 when it travels to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the Greater Louisville Classic.
