INDIANAPOLIS – University of Southern Indiana junior Johnnie Guy and senior Julia Kohnen have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runners of the Week for men’s and women’s cross country, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Guy finished runner-up in the 124-competitor field at last Saturday’s University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational with an eight-kilometer time of 24 minutes, 01.15 seconds. The Palmyra, Indiana, native helped guide the sixth-ranked Screaming Eagles to a fourth-place finish in a loaded 10-team field. USI placed fourth with 107 points, 62 behind first-place and Division I No. 21 Eastern Kentucky. Division I No. 4 Oklahoma State was second with 48 points, while Ohio State (92 points) and host Kentucky (127 points) were third and fifth, respectively. This is Guy’s third career weekly cross country honor as he was also recognized on Sept. 17 and Oct. 8, 2013. It is also the second straight weekly nod for USI as Tyler Pence earned the season’s first award last week.
?USI returns to action October 4 when it travels to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the Greater Louisville Classic.
