INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis sophomore linebacker Rob Dury, Lincoln University senior running back Morris Henderson, and Saint Joseph’s College redshirt sophomore kicker Marcin Gawlak have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Henderson was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, Dury was picked Defensive Player of the Week, while Gawlak was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Gawlak weathered windy conditions in Saint Joseph’s home opener Saturday, a 42-17 victory over Alderson Broaddus. The Caroll Stream, Illinois, native booted five punts for 252 yards, which included a GLVC record 79-yarder that snaps the previous mark of 76 yards set by William Jewell’s William Frevert against Quincy on Nov. 10, 2012. In addition, Gawlak broke the conference record for average yardage in the game as his 50.4 average bested the previous record of 48.1 (7 punts, 337 yards), set by Truman State’s Jacob Lamp against Saint Joseph’s on Nov. 9, 2013. This is the second career weekly honor for Gawlak as he was also recognized by the league on Sept. 30, 2013. He is the Pumas’ first special teams honoree since placekicker Gavin Voss earned the award on Nov. 11, 2013.
