INDIANAPOLIS – Quincy University sophomore defender Xhovani Dokaj and redshirt-senior goalkeeper Drew Duncan have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week in men’s soccer, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Dokaj followed up his Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week and GLVC Player of the Week selection with another impressive week. In the six Quincy goals scored last week, Dokaj was involved in five of them. He started the week by assisting on the game-winning goal against Lindenwood, sending a cross from the right side of the box to Ethan Venvertloh, who headed it in. Dokaj assisted on another goal in the game and scored in the 79th minute to give the No. 11 Hawks a 4-0 win. The sophomore scored the game-winner against Bellarmine in the 83rd minute when Steve McAnany found him with a lead pass. Dokaj beat a defender and finished in the right corner of the goal in Quincy’s 1-0 conference victory. The St. Louis, Missouri, native recorded his fourth game-winner of the season with 24 seconds left against McKendree on a breakaway facilitated by a touch from Jordan Roberts. Dokaj finished between the keeper's legs to the far right post for the 1-0 double-overtime win. Dokaj totaled three goals and two assists with two game-winning goals this past week. He has six goals, five assists, and four game-winners this season. Coupled with last week’s honor, this is Dokaj's third career weekly award as he was also recognized as GLVC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30, 2013.
