INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University senior Emily Frith has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week, it was released by the conference office on Tuesday. The announcement comes following a league-wide vote of the conference's head coaches that was submitted shortly after the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America (USTFCCCA) announced Monday that Frith was its Women's Division II National Athlete of the Week.
This marks the second time Frith has earned both GLVC and national honors as she also accomplished the feat on Oct. 8, 2013. The accolade is also the fourth weekly honor of Frith's career, having also earned GLVC Runner of the Week on Sept. 24, 2013 and Oct. 11, 2011.
Back on the trails for the first time since an injury derailed a decorated 2013 season, Frith challenged the top Division I women at the National Catholic Cross Country Invitational at Notre Dame before ultimately finishing fourth overall in a field of 288 runners. She covered the 5k course in 17 minutes, 36.2 seconds, finishing behind only a pair of runners from Notre Dame and another from Division I Marquette. The next-closest DII runner crossed the line about 15 seconds after Frith. As a team, the Frith-led Knights placed second overall in the 25-team field of non-Division I programs.
Frith and her Knights will compete in the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 4, which will feature a field of top Division I, II and III programs.
