INDIANAPOLIS – University of Wisconsin-Parkside senior Evan Lewandowski has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week in men’s cross country, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Lewandowski finished sixth overall and third among NCAA Division II runners while helping his Rangers to a team title at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota last Saturday. Lewandowski kept a mile pace of 5 minutes, 15 seconds to finish the 8,000-meter race at 26:05.9. The five scoring runners for Parkside finished within a minute of each other and totaled 90 points, nine markers ahead of runner-up Augustana College. This was Parkside's best finish since 2012 when they finished in fourth place.
This is the fourth weekly honor of his career. The Medford, Wisconsin native was also recognized by the league on Sept. 13 and Oct. 18, 2011, as well as Oct. 9, 2012, which was the last time a Ranger earned the conference award.
The Rangers will be back in action on Oct. 11 when they host the Lucian Rosa Invitational.
