INDIANAPOLIS – Drury University senior midfielder Alec Nagel and Lewis University senior defender David Pyle have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week in men’s soccer, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Pyle quarterbacked a Flyer defense that notched a pair of shutouts and held their opponents to three shots for the entire weekend as Lewis played to a scoreless draw against McKendree on Friday and earned a 1-0 shutout over Bellarmine on Sunday. The weekly performance helped vault the Flyers into a four-way tie for second place in the GLVC, and made Lewis (6-2-2, 5-1-2) just one of two conference teams to blank both of their opponents over the weekend. This is the first career weekly award for Pyle and the first for a Flyer defender since Alec Pickett was honored on Oct. 28, 2013.
