INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University senior Emily Frith has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week in women’s cross country, it was released by the conference office on Tuesday.

Frith ran in the highly competitive "Gold" race in Saturday’s Greater Louisville Classic, which was held at Louisville’s E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park – site of the 2014 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.  The Crab Orchard, Kentucky native set a new school record for five kilometers with a time of 17:17.17, and finished ninth overall in the mostly Division I field of 300 runners.  The meet is the nation's largest collegiate cross country event with more than 2,700 runners.

The accolade is the fifth weekly honor of Frith’s career, having also earned GLVC Runner of the Week on Sept. 23, 2014, Sept. 24 and Oct. 8, 2013 and Oct. 11, 2011.  Frith is now one career weekly accolade shy of the conference record set by UW-Parkside’s Hope Christie between 2010-11.

Frith and Bellarmine return to action on Oct. 25 at the Midwest Regional Preview in Evansville, Indiana.
