INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference has named Lewis University junior Alex Thode its GLVC Player of the Month for September in men’s golf, it was announced Friday. Thode earned the honor following a vote from the league’s men’s golf coaches.
Thode concluded his first month of the fall season with a 71.86 stroke average over seven rounds. In opening the season at the Wolf Pack Invitational, Sept. 8-9, where the Flyers finished tied for fifth in the 15-team field, Thode fired a first-round 68 to tie his career low. He finished with rounds of 72 and 71 for a 54-hole total of 211 to place fifth out of 77 players.
The Washington, Iowa, native then went on to earn medalist honors at the UW-Parkside Fall Invitational, Sept. 15-16, in a field that included eight GLVC teams. Thode carded a 139 (71-69) to beat 51 other players in the field, while helping the Flyers to a tournament win with a score of 576. He closed out the month by placing tied for 45th in the 169-player field at the Midwest Regional #1, Sept. 29-30. After an 81 to open the event, he responded with a 72 for a score of 153. As a team, Lewis placed 11th out of 34 regional teams with a 606.
This is the second career monthly award for Thode as he was also recognized by the conference as last year’s honoree for the month of October.
