Drury University’s Marco Cherisma (Delray Beach, Fla.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The junior forward guided the Panthers to a pair of wins last week by posting seven goals.
In Drury’s 5-0 win over visiting Oakland City on Sept. 1, Cherisma scored twice and added an assist. He posted the game-winning goal in the 24th minute from four yards out on assists from Nick Washam and Jake Allison. He added his second goal minutes later unassisted.
Cherisma scored a school-record five goals in the Panthers’ 5-0 win over visiting Upper Iowa on Sept. 2. He tallied the game-winner on his own deflected attempt in the 27th minute and added another goal in the first half and three more in the second half. The five goals breaks a 13-year old record for goals in a match previously set by Jarrett Wagner in 1994.
On the year, Cherisma leads the GLVC with 10 goals and 22 points. He is averaging 5.5 points and 2.5 goals per match this season.
