INDIANAPOLIS – Quincy University redshirt freshman running back Chris Harris and redshirt sophomore kicker Blake Allison, along with William Jewell College senior linebacker Eric Jackson, have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Harris was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, Jackson was picked Defensive Player of the Week, while Allison was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Harris rushed for a school and GLVC-record seven touchdowns to lead the Hawks to a 59-34 win over Southwest Baptist on Saturday at Flinn Stadium. The Springfield, Illinois, native averaged 9.1 yards per carry, rushing 24 times for 218 yards, which are the third-most in league history. Harris scored three of his touchdowns in the first half and added four more in the second half, including his final touch of the game - a 93-yard scamper that is the longest rush in QU and GLVC history. His touchdown runs were for 2, 6, 1, 14, 6, 9 and 93 yards, respectively, as the Hawks came back from a 24-7 deficit for the 25-point win. He was one rushing touchdown shy of the NCAA Division II record of eight, which has occurred just once. The seven total touchdowns and 42 points also established QU single-game records. Harris also caught one pass for 34 yards out of the backfield. The 6-foot, 200-pound back already has 12 rushing touchdowns this season, ranking fourth in the nation in that category and standing just three shy of the school's single-season record. This is the first weekly honor for Harris and it’s the first for a Hawk since quarterback Nick Lonergan earned the season’s first offensive award on Sept. 8.
