INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference has named University of Southern Indiana junior Abbey Winter and University of Indianapolis senior Kimberly Trojan as its Baden Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Winter averaged 4.12 points per set to help lead the Screaming Eagles to three Midwest Region victories this past week, including a pair of intra-division matches. The upperclassman began the week with 11 kills, four blocks, and three digs as USI defeated Kentucky State in four sets. In the contest, she hit .381 and had one serve ace as the Eagles snapped a two-match losing streak. Winter returned Friday night to post 11 kills, five blocks, and three aces in USI’s four-set road win over McKendree. She finished the week by racking up 12 kills, a .400 attacking percentage, two aces, and a match-high eight blocks in Southern Indiana’s come-from-behind four-set win over the University of Illinois Springfield. For the week, she averaged 2.83 kills, 1.42 blocks, and 0.50 aces in 12 sets. She also posted a .366 attacking percentage which pushed the Eagles record to 11-6, 6-5 GLVC. On the year, Winter is second in the GLVC with 1.31 blocks per set, and is second on the team with 3.59 points per set. The Germantown, Illinois native earns her second career weekly award as she was also recognized on Nov. 4, 2013.
